A fresh look at Rudolph
The other night, Little A and I bought the Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer DVD. I always seem to miss this one and as it is the height of nostalgia for me, I decided we should have it. The DVD had the obligatory "special features" which we always have to check out.
It turns out that a year after it was released, "Why Am I Such a Misfit", was replaced by a song called "Fame & Fortune". I was curious to see if the song would stir any memories, so we watched the clip. It was a pretty horrible song and must've been put in because someone complained about the misfits heading nowhere in life.
But it did have its silver lining.
Toward the end, Little A turns to me and says, "Are they saying 'Pain and Torture'?"
"Yes honey, they are happily singing and dancing around the North Pole to the words 'Pain and Torture'." We spent the rest of the evening breaking into that festive, cheerful tune, "Pain and Torture" whenever it seemed necessary. Which was a lot.

That is fabulous!
heehee. Perhaps they were sado-masochists :)
LOL - better to be a sadomasochist than to be a misfit?!
LOL!!! And snicker too! Pain and torture at the north pole! Was it that dentist? I'd miss the misfit song for sure. Have you seen the island of misfit patterns web page? Naughty squiddy is there. Oh, and your brother's blog? B-O-R-I-N-can this get slower?-G. One WOULD think it'd be more interesting.
Pain and torture indeed! Actually I loved the original Rudolph and we owned all of the Sid and Marty Kroft specials on VHS. Because we no longer own a vce these were all gifted to a former neighbor for her grandchildren. We made the mistake once of buying the "new" Rudolph. It was one of the most horrible pieces of crap ever made. And Susan Sarandon drones on in a naselly singing voice in some arias which could draw confessions from the most staunch terrorists. Do not, I repeat, do not buy Rudolph II! And in our old VHS version of Rudolph they sand the misfit song.
hey, wait a minute--i remember the misfit song. it was stupid. but i remember it, so i know it was in there. am i just so friggin' old i remember the original rudolph special? holy shit.
and in response to your other post wherein your sister said having a blog is the stupidest thing ever--having a blog isn't the stupidest thing ever. having a "myspace" page is. :P
I've never seen the Pain and Torture version, but how fitting, considering the rest of the anti-social themes in Rudolph :o)
He must have enjoyed Pain and torture-- later he tries to freeze Cornelius and Hermey to death on the Island of Misfit Toys-- What... Do you live in a Cave?... Close the Friggin Door!!
